ESPN reporter, Richard Durrett dies at the young age of 38 : sad news

BRISTOL, Conn. -- Richard Durrett , a veteran reporter who covered Dallas-area sports for ESPN, has died. He was 38.

ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz confirmed Durrett's death Tuesday night, but said he had no further details.

ESPN Dallas colleague Tim MacMahon tweeted that Durrett "collapsed and died suddenly."

Durrett covered the Rangers and other teams for ESPN Dallas for the last five years. He worked at the Dallas Morning News before joining ESPN.

"There is not a more versatile sports journalist in the Dallas market than Durrett, who expertly covered football, basketball, hockey, motorsports and golf in addition to baseball during his career," MacMahon wrote on ESPN. "There aren't any that work harder, either. But he'll be best remembered for his eternally sunny, giving personality."

Patrick Stiegman, vice president and editorial director for ESPN Digital & Print Media, called Durrett "a dedicated colleague and friend," and the Rangers offered their condolences in a statement. The team says Durrett covered the organization "with professionalism and integrity."
